LMGT3 - Race Strategy

Plan your Le Mans Ultimate race before you get in the car. The TSR Race Strategy tool works out your stints lap by lap – Virtual Energy and fuel, when to pit, how much to refuel, tyre changes and the time lost in the pits. Pick a class and circuit to load our defaults, then fine-tune them with your own figures from practice.

Add the weather forecast to see when to switch to wets, compare a lift and coast plan, and sign in with Steam to save your strategies and download a PDF race sheet. It's free for every driver – not just TSR members.

Frequently asked questions

What is Virtual Energy in Le Mans Ultimate?

Hypercar and LMGT3 cars have a Virtual Energy (VE) allowance as well as fuel. You start a stint with up to 100% VE and every lap uses some of it, so it is often what decides how long a stint can be. Fuel-only classes such as LMP2 just use litres. The tool switches between the two automatically when you choose a class.

What is the fuel ratio?

It's how many litres of fuel go in for each 1% of Virtual Energy you add in the pit menu. If your fuel would run out before your VE does, the tool warns you and tells you the lowest fuel ratio that lets you use all of your VE.

How does the tool decide when to pit?

It runs the race lap by lap on the clock. You pit at the end of the last lap you can complete while keeping your pit buffer (a small safety margin of VE or fuel). At each stop it only refuels what you need to reach the flag plus your finish buffer, so you don't carry extra weight or waste time refuelling.

How is the pit stop time worked out?

Pit lane loss (the time to drive through the pit lane at the limiter) + a fixed amount for stopping and pulling away + refuelling time + tyre change time. Refuelling time depends on the class, for example about 0.42 seconds per 1% VE in LMGT3. You can change all of these under Advanced settings.

When does my race finish in a timed race?

On the first time you cross the line after the clock runs out. In multiclass races the chequered flag comes out when the overall leader crosses the line, so enter the leader's lap time (for example the Hypercar pace) to see whether you'll get one more lap.

Where do the default figures come from?

Average lap times are based on a good race pace (about 103% of a fast lap) for each class and circuit, VE and fuel per lap come from TSR's own data, and pit lane losses come from drive-through times. Every car is a little different, so the best results come from your own figures: do a few laps in practice and enter your VE and fuel per lap.

How does the weather planning work?

Turn on Plan for weather and enter the five LMU weather slots, or load them straight from a TSR race. The tool works out how wet the track gets as rain arrives and how quickly it dries afterwards, slows your lap times, adjusts energy use, and adds a stop for wets or slicks at the right moment. Rain chances below your threshold are shown as a risk, with the laps they could affect, so you can be ready.

Is lift and coast worth it?

Sometimes. Lifting a little early before the big braking zones saves energy for a small loss of lap time. Turn on Lift & Coast to compare three plans: normal, coasting just enough laps to save a stop, and coasting the whole race. Saving a stop in LMU mostly saves the pit lane time (you still need the same energy), so the tool shows whether you actually come out ahead.

Can I save my strategy or print it?

Yes. Sign in with Steam to save up to 50 strategies, load them again before race day, and download a PDF race sheet with your stints, pit stops, race timeline and energy chart.

How accurate is it?

It's a planning guide, not a guarantee. Traffic, safety cars, damage and driving style all change things on the day. Use it to set your plan, check your VE and fuel use in practice, and keep an eye on your buffers in the race.

Is it free?

Yes. The Race Strategy tool is free for everyone. If you enjoy racing with friendly, competitive people, join us on Discord and take part in a TSR championship.
